Custard Media wanted to create a company viral video. Predominately an internet marketing firm, Custard Media has successful gained more than 50 clients by offering them a variety of services other than simply SEO; some of these services also include online PR, content writing, link building, Pay Per Click, branding, social bookmarking – basically a complete service to aid clients’ Google exposure.
We were looking for something quirky, imaginative, humorous and evocative to capture an audience and make them think about, and remember, their brand. We brainstormed some ideas with the team and decided that the general concept should be current and be prominent in people’s minds through TV Advertising. We would then include our creative idea to make the film more viral.
So it was to be an M&S style food advert spoof, incorporating the team, along with alluring shots of custard dripping down a laptop with Google in vision. Sultry music and the smooth tones of a voice over artist, similar to that of the original TV advertisements, helped to create a satirical parody with a serious message. One of the talented content writers at Custard wrote the script, the producer and crew spent time in pre-production, finding a good local studio, sourcing the specialist kit, choosing a VO artist, composer and the shoot date was here!
Behind the scenes

We chose Workhouse Marketing’s studio in Ribchester as our shooting location, the facilities were fantastic and the staff extremely accommodating.
The crew had a piece of kit made especially for the shoot, a slider which creates movement through the shots, rather like a jib but much smaller and more compact. The camera body slides onto the casing either vertically or horizontally.

Style setting, our props were taken from Custard Media’s offices, to ensure that our wide shot had the same continuity.

Checking the monitor so that I can see what Dave can see and ensuring the shot is correctly lit and composed.

The film was cut on avid, with a very similar VO artist and composed soundtrack behind the pictures and voice. The aim is to create as much Google exposure as possible through various media sites to increase brand awareness, ultimately leading to an upsurge in enquiries.
